This glove caught my attention during a visit to a thrift store. With the glove’s bright color and child like drawing I was instantly intrigued. The signature written on the fabric read Ullas. I found out the creator behind this brilliant piece of work was Swedish textile designer Ulla Scheuer.
This was the starting point of me looking into Ulla Scheuer’s vast and colorful body of work.
The signature Ullas initially stood for Ulla Svensson, but as Ulla Svensson married and took the name Scheuer the s remained.
Born in 1936, living i Gothenburg, encouraged by her then husband, a designer himself, to apply to study at the art school – Högre konstindustriella skolan – Ulla Scheuer soon excelled. After working as a designer at textile manufacturer Mölnlycke mönsterateljé, Scheuer continued working freelance. Manufacturer Stildukar printed many of Ulla Scheuer’s creations, and her work was also sold by Ikea. Ulla Scheuer passed in 2009, but her work lives on. Among Swedish textiles Scheuers are the most sold in Japan.
I truly cherish Ulla Scheuer’s style and have quite a number of her textiles in my collection. Here are a few of them. There is so much exquisite detail to explore.
