Vintage Boardgames, a Name Necklace and Fun Times Planning an Upcoming Birthday

What does your favorite birthday look like?
How do you want to celebrate your special day?

Over the last couple of months I have been on the lookout for fun gifts to give to myself. Items I know I will relish. Being into vintage stuff I love visiting thrift stores looking for things that delight me. Gifts that don’t necessarily cost a lot, but are deliciously on point. I have my birthday coming up and I’m having fun planning ahead.

To me, the preparing plays a big part in the joy of celebrating a birthday. Looking for a fun gift. A well-thought-out one. Selecting a beautiful gift wrap. Baking a cake. Planning activities.

I have a box filled with gift wraps, ribbons, tiny birthday candles, beautiful greeting cards. Items I’ve found and collected over the years. Vintage stuff too. It’s always such a festive moment fetching the box from where it’s stored and to start creating.

To me, the fun of gift giving comes in a variety of ways.

Every birthday I treat myself to an investment in stocks and shares. It has become a tradition. My intention is to show myself how sincerely I care about my wellbeing and future.

I also love creating home made presents. Home made gift wraps too. Expressing oneself freely is such fun.

Have you ever considered making a text logo displaying your name? Where the graphic style of the font turns the logo into a trademark, to be used online or on paper. Or to print on a t-shirt, turn it into a sticker or a clothing badge.

I already have a logo, depicting a rising sun, displayed here on my homepage. I created that logo in Illustrator, from a painting I have done.

Now I’m adding a text logo displaying my name.

Yet another idea is to create a personal scrapbook. Ten pages showing ten personality traits you love about yourself. “I shine like the sun. I have a magical singing voice. I’m so creative. I’m so nurturing. I’m so wise.” Illustrated with drawings, photos, stickers, sketches. What a delightfully fun and creative project. There are endless ways to express love.

Below are some of the items I’ve gotten. Happy Birthday BB.

Vintage duos card game.
Quartets card game Happy Families. This is a vintage one, recently reprinted.
I’m already infatuated with this one. A tote bag made out of cotton. What a happy vibe illustration. From the store Flying Tiger.
A name necklace in gold. Got this one done online. It’s the same font as the necklace Carrie wore in the TV series Sex in the City.
Vintage Barbie Puzzle. I’m really exited about this one. Acquired with a bit of a stretch. From the US. Got it in the Netherlands.
Vintage board game from Sweden. AB Glass & Godis, Joker by Brio. Got it because of the lovely 1970s illustrations on the actual board. See the three close-ups below.
The Plant Sitter, by Gene Zion. Published in 1959. The illustrations by Margaret Bloy Graham are a pure delight.
Vintage wooden jigsaw puzzle. Made by Lito. Cute as a button.
Very exited about this one. A newl jigsaw puzzle, illustrated by American artist Sharon Nullmeyer. This is how the puzzle is described by the producer: An afternoon in an artist’s studio… Color wheels on the wall, gouache tubes, watercolors, a glass jar with brushes drying, and a sketchbook full of inspirational pieces. All the materials are spread out on a fluorescent-pink-and-red-patterned cloth. Which medium will the artist use? What is the muse today? Painted by Sharon Nullmeyer and inspired by her own studio in Woodstock, New York.
Vintage jigsaw puzzle depicting the Mainzelmännchen. Adorable cartoon figures created by German Television Broadcaster ZDF. Enjoyed watching the Mainzelmännchen as a kid in the 70s.
Vintage Barbapapa jigsaw puzzle. Couldn’t resist the box.
Adorable vintage Barbie Boardgame. Barbie gets ready for a date with Ken.
Fascinated by the way the hair is drawn.
