What would you choose to fill your favorite pastime in August with? If you were asked to list ten things? How would you salute the Month of August?
Here are some things I like in no particular order.
Spending time at the pool. A pool in your own garden or a public one. As long as it is outdoors.
To me crystal clear water has such an allure. Clear turquoise water against white tiles. I love the combination. Turquoise against white.
That goes for hues of blue too. I love blue against white.
The reflecting light in the water, creating a spectrum of turquoise hues. Blue hues. Gazing into these reflections. Truly sitting with them. Observing the beauty they convey.
I love pool water with just the right temperature. Not too cold. Not too warm. Feeling the water against your skin. Taking the sensation in. Stopping whatever else is going on and just feeling it.
To me, this is pure heaven.
Sun tan lotion. I love the scent of sunscreen. I don’t need sun to apply it. The scent is so delicious. It’s the scent of Summer. The scent of holiday. It smells like sunshine. Pina colada in some of them. Tropical fruits in others. They all radiate abundance. Care free times. The all is wonderful in the world vibe.
I delight in a number of sunscreens. Some of them with names as summery delicious as the scent itself. Hawaiian Tropic. Piz Buin. Coppertone. Australian Gold. Soleil De La Mer. Sun Bum. Ocean Potion. Malibu. Pacifica Beauty Sun. Hint Sunscreen Pineapple. Watermelon Glow. Banana Boat. Hawaiian Sunscreen. Vacation. Sol de Janiero Bum Bum.
Pool floats. I like all kind of pool inflatables. The colors many of them come in. Uplifting happy colors. The brightness they bring forth.
The message they convey. Play. Have fun. Be silly. Feel light at heart. Being into vintage stuff I especially delight in vintage pool toys.
Aqua aerobics. Exercises copied from land into the water. I love how the buoyancy makes the body float and how moving about feels so easy. The water keeps you pleasantly cool.
I really love the light hearted fun of the moving about in the water to music business. I recently treated myself to an hour of aqua aerobics as a birthday gift.
To me, aqua fitness is like dancing around in a disco, inside a pool.
Racket sports. Tennis. Padel. Any racket sport. I love how much fun I have when playing. When I play it is with the aim to keep the play alive. Keeping the ball going back and forth for as long as possible. I play with cooperation, not competition. In my game everyone is a winner. My joy never comes at the expense of someone else’s loss.
Roller skating. To me roller skating was an amusing way to spend a day in the late 1970s. I took it up some years ago and it is still as fun. Dressing up in a summery outfit. Feeling the sensation of carefree cruising along the street.
Crafting outdoors. The delight of being outdoors. There is something so special about spending time out in the open. Bringing out a big table and all the accessories. Crafting either by yourself or gathering a few equally kind hearted, life embracing people, in whose company you feel great. Everyone crafting whatever they are into. Someone maybe wants so fix up a bicycle. Another one paint a canvas. A third, explore the world of sculpting. No need for it to lead to a result. It’s about the exploring. The playing. Having fun.
Barbequing. The scent of smoked wood is just delicious.
Sitting with a flower. My terrace is brimming with cosmos flowers in bloom. These very easy cared for flowers come in the most exquisite colors. Soft gentle light mauve. Dark intense purple. I love to sit by a flower and study it. The shape of the petals. The curves. The intensity of the color. Did you know they contain sacred magic? You can tap into the consciousness of a flower and have them share their wisdom. Stunning.
The scent of a sun infused forest. Have you ever been in a forest on a hot sunny Summer’s day? When the whole forest smells of warm sunny wood? I adore this scent.
Want to watch a Summer sunny movie?
Here’s Troop Beverly Hills.
Be sure to check out Shelley Longs outfits.
Here’s a review posted by a viewer, BettieTeese, on Imdb:
”If only all girls scouts were as fun as Troop Beverly Hills! The film about a down and out divorced house wife with a passion for fashion becoming a girl’s scout leader is both hilarious, exciting and thoroughly entertaining. Comedic actress Shelley Long shines as Phyllis Nefler, the woman who dares to make alterations to her daughter’s scout uniform, and modify the location of their bushland camping trips to the Beverly Hills Hotel! Phyllis rejects traditional scout activities such as bush walking for manicures and pedicures, preferring her troops to live in the lap of luxury. Needless to say, the girls adore her, the leaders of the other scout groups despise her, and this is all makes the delightful, hilarious and wacky comedy that is Troop Beverly Hills!”
What do you say – since we all create our reality and the world we see around us with our words, thoughts, beliefs and how we feel – what about we as humankind, instead of striving for survival, strive for quality of life?
Love your reflections on each month. Makes me see them in a totally new perspective. Thanks!
