Do you remember the sun lamps of the 1970s? I remember my mum used to have one. It was kept in my parents’ bedroom and we children had strict orders not to use it.
The sun lamp of my childhood was handeld with utmost respect. It produced both ultra violet and infrared light. When in use the door was closed. The chair you were to sit on in front of the lamp was positioned at a safe distance and special dark goggles were used to protect the eyes. Keeping the exact time of a session was equally important.
The lamp intrigued us children. We were naturally very eager to explore this exotic artifact.
This is a portable UV and IR lamp from the 70s that I’ve kept around. This ultraviolet and infrared device has a handle and easily folds when not in use. It still works. Would I use it? No. That doesn’t feel too tempting. But I do like the design.
Here is a slighty older model, also with a handle. A vintage German Osram. What an impressive light bulb.
